The Body Knows the Seasons

We like consistency.

The same productivity every week. The same appetite. The same energy. The same mood. The same output.

Nature has no such ambition.

There are seasons for expansion and seasons for retreat. Times for flowering, times for shedding, times when nothing visible seems to happen at all.

The body has seasons too.

Some days ask for intensity. Others ask for sleep, simplicity, warmth, movement, fasting from noise, or simply less.

I am increasingly interested in living with these rhythms rather than constantly overriding them.

This is not an argument against discipline.

It is an argument for a more intelligent discipline, one that knows the difference between resistance and exhaustion, between laziness and incubation, between pushing through and knowing when enough is enough.

A tree does not apologise for winter.

Maybe we shouldn't either.
